We invite women and gender-diverse individuals in migration, policy makers and service providers to learn together and help us accomplish our goals:
Promote an inclusive network for sharing information and building a collective platform for academics, professionals, organizations, and people with lived experience wanting to end discrimination towards women and gender-diverse migrants.
Center the voices of people with lived experience of precarious migration in the policy recommendation process.
Develop resources that provide research, practical context, and actionable recommendations that can influence policymakers and facilitate self-advocacy.
Funder, Members & Regional Partners
In 2021, the Alliance for Gender Justice in Migration was established through funding by the Women and Gender Equality Canada https://women-gender-equality.canada.ca to support activities to end discrimination against women and gender-diverse migrants in Canada. The Alliance is coordinated by the Migrant Workers Center, based in Vancouver, BC https://mwcbc.ca/.
With a network of 28 organisations and 53 members across Canada, National and Regional Coordinating Committees collaborate to analyse factors, identify trends, and provide recommendations to address challenges identified at regional and national levels.

Sustainability Plan for Collective Impact
The Alliance Sustainability Plan for collective impact focuses on strategies for continuing to achieve our goals beyond the current funding period. By sharing the research and resources compiled over the past 2 years, we intend to:
- empower individuals with the information and resources they need to understand their rights, self-advocate, and foster resilience
- support regional and national advocacy efforts through Policy Position Statements and Briefing Notes that outline key issues, challenges, and recommendations for policymakers and relevant stakeholders
- raise public awareness about women and gender diverse migrants through social media, workshops, community events, and conferences
- promote collaboration with international, national, regional, and local organisations to share best practices and enhance the effectiveness of advocacy efforts.
Knowledge Exchange
The Alliance collaborates with government, NGOs, and community organisations to strengthen advocacy for women and gender-diverse migrants. Together with our partners, we aim to address challenges more comprehensively and amplify efforts toward creating positive change.
The Alliance for Gender Justice in Migration 3rd National Annual Conference was held in March 2024 to discuss emerging research, issues, and trends including best practices and lessons learned. A link is available for conference recordings and summaries.
Data-Driven
The Alliance uses research and stories representing the lived experience of women and gender-diverse migrants to support policy position statements and the development of other advocacy resources. By incorporating evidence-based arguments, advocacy efforts are strengthened, and recommendations become more compelling and actionable to policymakers.
