People with lived experience of precarious migration, service providers, and academic researchers are at the core of our work as we conduct research, develop policy solutions, raise public awareness, and advocate for change. Hearing from people with lived experience is critical for advocacy. Women and gender-diverse individuals who share their stories of migration provide an essential grounding for service providers, advocates and policymakers. The Alliance values the stories shared as they allow for a deeper understanding of the issues and we recognize that stories, when gathered and disseminated with consent, care and respect, are important advocacy tools that can lead to change.
Conferences hosted by the Alliance engage diverse community members and perspectives in action-oriented conversations to understand and address the systemic barriers. Recordings of conferences further extend the learning for those with lived experience of migration for self-advocacy, service providers, advocates, and others wanting to increase their awareness of the issues.
Quebec Videos
This video series features five women from Quebec, all of whom experienced precarious migration. It shows how barriers to work permits and permanent residency impacted their lives in unique and profound ways, and the ripple effects that ensued. The project was led by the Regional Coordinator team from the Immigrant Workers Centre, the Alliance’s Quebec partner organization.

Digital Storybook: Voices of Women and Gender-Diverse Individuals on Migration
In this digital storybook, we learn the stories of seven women with migration experience in different regions of Canada, as shared in a series of interviews. Each story exemplifies the disappointment, abuse, isolation and disillusionment that so many migrants experience; we also hear their voices of strength, growth and resilience, as they reach out to others, pull themselves forward through self-advocacy and, in many cases, begin advocating for those who follow.
