The evolving landscape of Canadian migration programs creates and maintains precarious immigration statuses for many women and gender-diverse people. The lack of pathways to permanent residence creates barriers to inclusion and safety in Canadian society, including inequitable access to employment standards, healthcare, social services, and legal support. Women and gender-diverse people who are vulnerable to losing their status experience multiple oppressions and face uniquely gendered challenges throughout their migration journey.
Applying a human rights approach and feminist intersectional analysis, the Alliance works to address structural barriers and end discrimination against women and gender-diverse migrants in Canada by conducting research, identifying trends, developing policy solutions, raising public awareness, and advocating for change.

The Alliance revisited and compiled 15 years of academic work to build their Policy Position Statements - click here to access our literature review.
Policy Position Statements
Policy Position Statements are official documents developed by the Alliance that provide background on six complex and overlapping issues that create multiple levels of structural exclusion for women and gender-diverse people in migration. Each Policy Position Statement outlines Calls- to-Action for government and public institutions and provides recommendations specific to the issue.
Briefing Notes
Briefing Notes highlight the issue and recommendations.
